The original and largest Diwali celebration of its kind in Canada brought the sights, sounds and tastes of India to over 1,000 guests at Pearson Convention Center in Brampton. After tallying up the numbers, an amazing $800,000 was raised at the gala.
“As we celebrate Diwali, and we give thanks and gratitude, we should all give back to our community’s health care,” says Rupi Tandon, Community Chair, Trillium Diwali 2012. “Trillium is our hospital – it holds a special place in our hearts. Our Trillium Diwali supporters are helping us reach our $2 million goal to revitalize Trillium’s life-saving Endoscopy Suites. This space provides thousands of community members with advanced detection and treatment of colon cancer and many other serious conditions.”
At the event, guests were dazzled by the spectacular performances of DK Bollywood Dance Pak and former patient Jennifer Lamond spoke about how an emergency colonoscopy and stomach scope saved her life by detecting Crohn’s disease after severe health issues were making daily life very difficult. “If there’s one message I could share with you, it’s this: don’t wait – put your health first,” she said to the attentive crowd. “I’m here today because I went to Trillium and for that I’m forever grateful.”
With more than 13,000 procedures performed each year, our endoscopy suites are vital to so many people in our community. There is an urgent need to revitalize the space and to provide the leading-edge equipment that will ensure the highest quality of care for our community.
“We’re proud to have celebrated another successful year of community heroism at Trillium Diwali,” says Steve Hoscheit, president and CEO of Trillium Health Centre Foundation. “Every year, our South Asian community – and the entire community – continues to give generously, which is a testament to the level of commitment our supporters have for health care in this community. We’re so thankful to be surrounded by people who believe in the incredible work of our health care professionals and give back to ensure that exceptional care continues to be available for us and our loved ones, for many years to come.”
Donations in honour of Trillium Diwali are still being accepted – we invite you to consider making a gift in honour of the season of Diwali to help achieve the $2 million goal for Trillium’s life-saving endoscopy program.
